![]() Put the bootable ubuntu usb and the USB with the hassio in the NUC and fire it up.Make a bootable USB from this file (Windows: recommend Rufus and follow this guide if you’re on Mac follow this ).Download Ubuntu Desktop (right now Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS).img file is in the root (note usb had to be NTFS for me due to large size). Download latest official release (v 4.12).Do Factory default (F9) and then you must go into advanced -> boot secure -> disable secure boot. Very important to wait until this is complete and the computer reboots itself. Put USB in the NUC and press F7 in the boot up and follow instructions. Extract the files to a clean usb root directory. Go to Intel site for your NUC version and download latest bios. Make sure bios is updated to latest on NUC, Use F2 upon boot to explore bios and see what version you are on.My steps have been listed above but if anyone wants a fresh step-by-step that worked, then here goes: I got my new NUC8i5BEK with NVME running using the latest official release (4.12) and not the dev 4.5. And it's in Format, so it automatically works with the Platform including the Menu and Backup Utility. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. Rufus Portable is packaged in a Installer so it will automatically detect an existing installation when your drive is plugged in. Rufus is significantly faster than similar utilities and it's open source and free. It can be be especially useful for cases where: you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, etc.) you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS you want to run a low-level utility. Rufus is a small utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc. Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the Platform. ![]() And it's open source and completely free. It's packaged in Format so it can easily integrate with the Platform. Rufus Portable is a USB formatting utility which also can create a bootable USB drive using a bootable ISO image. ![]()
